The Healdsburg Duals wrestling tournament, held every year at Healdsburg HS in Healdsburg, CA has been renamed the “Drew Esquivel Memorial Wrestling Tournament”. This is being done to honor of the memory of an alumni of our program that lost his life in 2016 while in NY city doing an internship through school right before his senior year in college at MIT University.
Drew wrestled for the Healdsburg Wrestling Club, Healdsburg JH and Healdsburg HS, graduating in 2013. He was a 4 year letterman, league champion and NCS place winner while at HHS. Not only a great athlete, he was a scholar as well and graduated as the Valedictorian for the HHS Class of 2013
He was going into his senior year at MIT University, one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country, majoring in Computer Science. As a member of the MIT wresting team, Drew was Rookie of the Year, Team Captain and Team MVP, just missing the medal round at the NCWA National Championships his Junior year. He was working extremely hard this past off season to succeed in his dream of gaining All-American status in his upcoming Senior season. No doubt he would have achieved that great honor
Aside from his athletic talent and academic aptitude, he had a remarkable personality and love of life. He was always volunteering time to community service efforts, was actively involved in his church and so many other activities meant to improve people lives in one way or another. He had so much potential for greatness and we all knew he would have no problem achieving that end
We'd like to invite your team to the

Format: 16 team dual tourney with 4 team pools wrestling round robin on 4 mats. Each group will be assigned to a specific mat and will wrestle each team in their pool until all matches are completed. Teams will be separated as best as possible based on dual strength, league/geographic area and section to keep them apart but the higher goal is to create 4 evenly balanced groups.
After the early pool rounds, teams will then move to a 4-team bracket based on finish in pool matches. The four pool winners will wrestle for places 1-4, runner ups will wrestle for places 5-8, etc. These bracket matches will also be designated to one mat.
Each team will get 5 duals. It’s a great format that allows for evenly contested matches for teams of all strengths and has been well received over the years.
Weigh-ins: 8:00am Boy’s Locker Room
Wrestling: 9:00am start and continue straight thru until complete (typically 5:00-6:00pm)
Awards: Trophies to top 3 teams. Gold medals to all kids that go 5-0, Silver to 4-1, Bronze to 3-2
Entry Fee: $325
